The farm apiary

lincsbee

A lovely day today, nice enough to quickly go through the 7 hives at the farm apiary. Bees returning with huge pollen loads, always a good sign.

All Qs present and correct, worker capped brood, larvae and eggs in all hives.

I will have to move a couple of the hives to the Ryefield apiary soon, 7 hives is too many for the farm apiary to support at this time of year

We've been over to the plot a few times recently to harvest some sprouts and leeks and to start preparing the ground for planting and sowing.  The sprouts have done pretty well this winter and we have been able to share quite a few with the landowner who, fortunately, is...

Horse manure

dave18

Hi I have just collected some horse manure from the local stables.

Its free and they bag it up for you, all they ask is that you return the bags asap for re use.

I will dig it in and use it as a mulch over newly planted stuff to help keep any frost off.

To Wisbech

lincsbee a nice day yesterday and a beekeeper in Wisbech who bought a couple of colonies off me two years ago needed a hand. he has three colonies now and they are huge, all double broods, and untouched since last autumn. Took them apart, marked one of the Queens, tidied them up and put the Queen excluders and supers back on top. Managed to go through my three hives at the ryefield apiary in the...
