January - what to do?

From : sissinghurst-castle | Date posted : 27th January 2012
You may be thinking its too early in the year to be starting to think about summer but in order to have everything running smoothly by may, plans need to be made now. Apart from the fact we all love curling up in front of the fire in the cold winter nights, poring over seed catalogues with visions of "how it will look this year!" and " wow, thats weird! ive gotta try that!" a good plan makes life simple. At sissinghurst we plan our seed sowings to maximise the use of protected growing spaces. As such we dont even start sowing our Tomatoe seeds till mid late march! Admittedly we carry on...

Forum

Compost or manure? Do snails really hate garlic? And what are the best gardening books? Take a look at the hot topics in the Forum, where you can chat and join in the debate. You can also use the forums to tell others about events, or to swap gluts of apples or courgettes, seeds, and equipment.

Upton upon Severn

From : craig1978 | Date posted : 31st January 2012

Hi new to the site, have put a land wanted add up on the main page and also started my own group as there don't seem to be many people in my area   So just wondering what tactics people have used to get the 6 people needed to contact the parish council or how I go about finding unused land or allotments in my area.  As google is failing me :(

Community questions

Tap into your online community to ask - and answer - questions that everyone can share. Don’t forget to browse the list of problems and solutions that have come up in the past – you might find an answer is there already. allotments

How much should a council be prepared to pay for allotments? Can they charge the allotment holders? How much should an allotment be?

General groups

Get together with Landsharers in your area to form a local community. You can use your group to find and share advice and information local to your area, and arrange to meet up to swap seeds, produce, and help. You could also start a group for Landsharers with a particular interest or specialism.

Organisations

Organisations that want to share their work with Landshare and offer land can set up their own hub on the website. Your organisation allows you to collate all your listings in one place, keep a regular blog that any admin of your organisation can add to, and post documents and other files.
