harvestbh

Harvest is a new project that aims to help people in Brighton & Hove grow their own and eat local. We are working with our partners to increase the amount of food grown in the city: on windowsills, in back gardens, in allotments, and in community spaces like parks and around housing estates. We're scrumping apples from trees around the city to prevent waste and make delicious juices and chutneys. And we're running a programme to redistribute surplus allotment produce to community food projects like lunch clubs and cookery sessions. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved: through volunteering at a project, coming on a training course, or attending one of our community food events. Or by joining us at our veg plot in Preston Park!

I have a garden with two vegetable patches and a large greenhouse. The garden is tiered with various trees, bushes, flowers etc. ( as you can see i am no expert). There is also a front garden with a small lawn area. I am looking for someone to keep the garden in check. Nothing fancy, just cutting back etc. In return i am offering use of vegetable patches and greenhouse.

cravenwine

Hello there, I've liked my wine for a number of years now, a nice glass of red goes down well with dinner. Over recent times I've taken more of an interest in growing the grape and hopefully producing something that the word quality could be connected with, hopefully not too much vinegar! I've started in small way on my allotment (hence the name which is also the site of my plot - Craven Vale) with 24 plants, this unfortunately is the limit of my 'vinyard' before monoculture takes over and I'm not that obsessive! This has not been a short term project with vine ordering itself taking a few months - correct rootstock, et al. And realistic cropping not expected for a couple of years (good weather permitting..). This leads me onto my notions for the future, which includes increasing the number plants being cultivated, hence my interest in land share. At this point I'd best be clear that I'm an amateur staring at an organic learning curve but happy to share - excuse the pun.

Craven wine!

We're a group of Mums, based over the East side of Brighton, who are looking to grow our own veg and we wondered if anyone had a plot of land they'd be willing to let us work in exchange for some of the eventual harvest? We have small children, so they'd be in tow on most occasions, and we'd be looking to use the land to create an organic allotment with digging patches and space for the kids to explore. We've considered being coworkers on someone else's plot, but most aren't accepting or suitable for children. With the allotment waiting lists still so long in Brighton, we figured we'd try our luck by asking on here! Ideally, you'd be in the East area but we'd consider anywhere within reasonable walking distance! Please email us to discuss further. Thanks!

Hello I'm a really keen gardener and am desperate to get a patch to grow fruit and veg - at the moment I only have enough outside space to hold a few pots of herbs. I'm passionate about local food and heritage varieties and love to make jams and chutneys with them. I've been told there's a 3 year wait on the allotment list I'm on - if you have a patch of land to spare or even a glut of veg you'd like to be turned into jars of lovely preserve then please get in touch :o) I'm also really keen to learn about keeping chickens.

Hello We are 2.5, living right in the centre of Brighton, amongst the lights, the noise, the traffic but desperately trying to live a country life. We are growing our own herbs & chillies, making our own chutneys, jams, wines, beers and generally loving experimenting with it all. Now we'd love the chance to grow all our own ingredients, but sadly our flat on the A23 is not conducive...
