Hello, every year we are getting either 2 or 3 rare breed pigs, looking after them enjoying their funny habits and generally giving them a good life. we buy them in april and take them to slaughter at the end of november. This year is our first year with 2 gloucester old spots and they are brilliant and such characters!! it is coming to that time of their life soon and looking to see if anyone would be interested or has knowledge of all things pork related, sausages, cured hams, etc.... that would like to get involved. We also do a bit of pest control on our land, so if bunny burgers are your thing we could help there as well (as long as we get some!!!) Please feel free to message us anytime. Wayne and Nat.

Hi I am a retired electrical engineer, I have lived in the Ayton area for 19 years. I am a keen vegatable gardener and want to grow more of my own vegetables. I will also have a surplus of eggs this year as I have nearly finished my chicken coop at home.

Hi there im Bev Im totally new to this site as of feb 2011. I am an animal lover and own my own which include dogs, chickens and bearded dragons, I work for pets at home, im 28 with 2 young girls. I would love to have a smallholding where i could keep my own animals (without upsetting neighbours ) and try growing my own veg. I have a first Diploma in animal care, i have years of experience with horses (although i have not been around them for 3 years ). I am hoping that this site will help me find a small plot of land close to me where i could keep a few chickens and may be turkeys, friends of mine would be happy to help out as we share the same interest, I hope that this gives you a rough idea of the person i am xxx

I am looking for land either very close to the centre of Scarborough or in the South Cliff area - any size of plot considered. I am an experienced food-grower who has just given up an allotment due to lack of time to travel out of town.

Hi, my name is Christine and I run a project in Scarborough called Growing Opportunities. This is a land-share project for people living in Scarborough and I play an active role in matching both individual food-growers and groups of food-growers with land/garden owners in and around Scarborough. I am also actively recruiting garden mentors to help provide practical help and moral support to people who are new to food-growing. Since the project began in February 2010 (thanks to a Big Lottery Fund grant via the Local Food Programme) 9 land matches have been made involving over 12 food-growers. There are currently two gardens awaiting suitable matches. During 2012 gardening workshops will take place to bring food-growers together and funds are also available for the purchase of tools and other materials to help growers get started.

Im a single dad of 4, my family and myself love growing our own produce, but since moving house we no longer have no good space to grow, except for our back garden. we prefer to eat home grown produce, rather than the dangerous, overrecycled overpackaged overly processed foods so easily available in chain supermarkets nowadays. we appreciate nature, and all she has to offer, and are also too aware of the dangers we approach due to the new "disposable lifestyle",which is so prolific worldwide. i guess what im trying to say is, i want my children to know better, and hopefully , the trend will catch on locally, as there is so, so much wasted, derelect, untended land around scarborough, its a shame for it to goto waste when local communities could be making much better use of it. ideally we would prefer a small holding near where we live, to plant our own vegetables and perhaps even a small area for a few animals. all space aquired would be very well maintained and looked after, with the utmost respect shown to the land allowed to us,and other people who may be using it already. Also, i would be interested in helping in any way i can on initiatives local to where we live.
