Landshare mentioned in the house of lords

On 16th January 2012 Baroness Jenkin mentioned Landshare in the House of Lords by saying that “…in places where allotments are scarce” Landshare is “a tremendously useful resource”.
This was part of wider conversation about the shrinking number of allotments in England and what plans the Government have to ensure there is enough. In fact since 1996 the numbers of allotments in England have nearly halved whilst the number of people who want to grow their own vegetables has steadily increased. The combination of both of these figures has led to a huge increase in waiting lists for allotments all over the country.
This makes Landshare a vital solution to the problem of waiting lists in the UK. As the discussion goes on to suggest that local authorities must work harder to allow plot owners to subdivide their land so that more people may share.
This hasn’t been the first time that Landshare has been mentioned in the House with favourable regard. Back in March 2009 the subject was brought up in connection with The National Trust making more space available for allotments.
