Observer Ethical Awards 2010 Winners Announced - Hugh Fearney-Whittingstall wins Campaigner award!
The winners of the Observer Ethical Awards have been announced, with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall scooping the prize for best Campaigner for Landshare. The shortlist for the Campaigner award included accomplished campaigners Joanna Lumley and Jamie Oliver.
The awards, held in conjunction with Ecover, aim to recognize the work done by campaigners throughout the UK. The winners were announced in a stella awards ceremony last night in London, presented by Colin Firth and Lucy Siegle.
According to SamuiGoGreen on Twitter, Hugh was apparently “miffed not to have had a speech as he says he doesn't deserve all the credit for the Landshare project”. Given the chance, perhaps Hugh would have given you landsharers a well-deserved glitzy mention at the ceremony?
Issues of sustainability and green living were a strong theme throughout the awards, with Local Roots and Wellie Boots, a café offering locally-sourced produce in Eastbourne, and The Recyclists, two 13-year-old boys who collect materials for recycling from local businesses and sell eggs from their own chickens. B&Q picked up the Ethical Business award for their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and demystify green issues.
